Production and storage buildings for wood processing

Slovenian company Petkovšek d.o.o. has been a long-standing partner of Schwarzmann, with whom we have successfully collaborated for years in building and renovating industrial facilities for wood processing. Their core business involves the acquisition and processing of wood into various semi-finished products, which requires versatile and technologically advanced spatial solutions.

Zaplana: Modernization and Expansion of Existing Facilities

At their headquarters near Logatec in Slovenia, the first phase of the project included:

  • The installation of a fabric structure for storing wood chips, which was later extended.
  • A new steel structure built over the existing sawmill as a protective roof.

The final dimensions of the fabric structure are 27 x 67 meters. It stands on a 5-meter-high concrete wall, enabling efficient handling of wood chips. The structure is open on all sides, which facilitates natural ventilation and additional drying of the material.

This type of fabric-covered shelter has proven to be a cost-effective solution for the storage and handling of less sensitive materials such as wood and biomass.

The previous structure housing the sawmill was too low for operational needs. The investor required a higher clearance to cover the sawmill, and thanks to the modular steel frame system, the new building was assembled without relocating the sawmill itself. The result is a more efficient working environment.

Belsko, Slovenia: New Development Phase with Intechles Wood Center

At the new location, we delivered:

  • An insulated warehouse for timber, 30 x 65 meters, built on an elevated part of the site.
  • A fully insulated steel structure, 33 x 120 meters, replacing several outdated concrete and steel buildings.
  • Refurbishment and new roofing of an adjacent existing building.

These facilities now serve as production spaces for formwork panel manufacturing. Fire safety was a key priority — the structure includes smoke vents and fire curtains. The customer replaced several separate structures with one open-span solution without internal columns or partitions. This allows for better workflow organization and more efficient use of the covered area.

A Partnership for the Future

Throughout each stage of the projects for companies Petkovšek d.o.o. and Lesni center Intechles d.o.o., we provided a personal approach, flexibility, and tailored solutions that support their ongoing growth and development. We’re proud to be part of their story — expanding production and storage capacities with lasting value.
