GIB – Industrial complex
GIB GmbH is a specialised company providing advanced geological and construction drilling services. Its activities include water well drilling, pile foundations, drilling for geothermal energy, and other. The company operates its own high-performance machinery and applies modern working methods.
Project Background
At the client’s new location, a modern industrial complex was planned to serve as the operational headquarters of the company as well as a central hub for the preparation, servicing, and logistics of heavy machinery. The client’s key requirements were functionality, robustness, and a uniform, recognisable appearance of all buildings within the complex.
The cooperation was initiated based on a recommendation from an existing customer. At Hallen Schwarzmann, we provided comprehensive support from the very beginning of the project, starting with the conceptual design phase, and jointly developed an architecturally and technically optimal solution.
Description of the Buildings
The project comprises three optically interconnected structures that together form a coherent and functional industrial complex.
Insulated Steel Structure Building with Flat Roof Adjacent to a Concrete Hall
The central building of the complex is an insulated steel structure building with a flat roof, functionally and visually connected to the concrete office building. A shared façade was created using façade panels installed both on the concrete hall and across the entire insulated steel structure building. This approach ensured a consistent architectural appearance despite the different structural systems.
The building accommodates the client’s core operational processes, including preparation of machinery, washing of vehicles and equipment, servicing and maintenance works, and the preparation of tools for on-site operations. The roof structure is designed and prepared for the installation of a photovoltaic system, providing long-term energy efficiency benefits for the client.
Type X Flat Roof Fabric Structure
The Type X flat roof fabric structure was designed as a multifunctional area for covered parking and storage. The walls are clad with trapezoidal sheet metal, while the roof is executed with insulation and a PVC membrane. A parapet with a minimum height of one metre allows for safe access on the roof.
A distinctive feature of this structure is the use of two transfer beams, which reduce the number of columns along the side façade to one. This design enables unobstructed access and smooth manoeuvring of large machinery, which was a key requirement for the client.
Canopy for the Fuel Station
The complex also includes a canopy for an internal fuel station, with approximate dimensions of 7 × 10 metres. The structure is supported by only two statically optimised columns since in between the columns or foundations there is the fuel tank.
The roof covering consists of panels, while the parapet ensures a clean flat-roof appearance and architectural consistency with the other buildings in the complex.
Architecture and Unified Design
All buildings were designed in a consistent architectural language, in accordance with the client’s specifications. The façades are finished in olive-green, while flashings, doors, gates, and gutters are executed in anthracite. During the project implementation, the client additionally decided to enhance the appearance of the concrete hall. We supported the client’s final decision on the halls’ appearance by preparing 3D views of various color combinations for the details.
